The Youth Retreat Project provides a three-week early intervention retreat to Maui County youths 14-21 years of age who have tried illicit/addictive substance. The youths will demonstrate increased knowledge of the detrimental effects of substance use/abuse and an increased knowledge in positive social behaviors. During the non-retreat periods, the project will provide substance abuse/use and violence prevention curriculums to other youths.
The project also provides the Pono curriculum to Molokai children in the 5 th and 6 th grades. The curriculum draws upon personal and group experiences in the application and integration of traditional cultural values, as guiding principles to making positive choices.
Eligibility:
• 14-21 year old youths residing in Maui County
• 5 th and 6 th graders residing on Moloka`i
Services:
• Three week retreat for Maui County youths who have tried illicit/addictive substances
• Substance abuse prevention education for 5 th and 6 th grade children residing on Moloka`i
