Ho‘okahua (To Lay The Foundation) Early Childhood Department The Ho‘okahua Department has been established to integrate ALU LIKE services dealing with families with young children. Our purpose is to kokua (assist) Native Hawaiian families to build on their own strengths so that their children will reach their fullest potential.

The Department Includes Two Projects: • Pūlama I Nā Keiki Project (Cherish the Children) offers parents home visiting and group services to help keiki from birth through five years to love learning and do well in school. Services on five islands are free and can begin before the baby is born. • Native Hawaiian Child Care Assistance Project provides subsidies for children of parents who work or go to school and helps to ensure quality child care. Must meet eligibility requirements.
